Our Hunger Center program is comprised of a choice model food pantry, a community meal, and a monthly Mobile Pantry. Through the Food Pantry, neighbors can visit once a month to select 3-5 days’ worth of groceries. Families and individuals receive pantry staples, fresh bread, fresh produce, and various perishable and non-perishable items. During the last program year, the pantry served an average of 607 households and approximately 154,000 meals.
Every Tuesday evening, community residents can join us for a free, hot community meal. Not only are residents receiving a meal, but also socialization with other community members. Last year, our weekly Community Meal served over 7,700 hot meals to the community.
On the first Monday of the month, we host a Mobile Pantry through the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (GCFB). At each Mobile Pantry, we receive 10,000-12,000 lbs. of fresh produce. During the school year, youth in the neighborhood are provided with a small bag of food every Friday through the Backpack Program. We also supply seniors in the area with an average of 30 meals a week and specially deliver it to them at the Alexia and Lourexis Apartments.
Partnering with the GCFB allowed the Hunger Center to distribute over 110,000 lbs. of fresh produce to an average 114 households each month. Through these services, the Hunger Center addresses food insecurity and contributes to the health and wellness of Broadway-Slavic Village residents.
