Volunteer Opportunities

For over 91 years our volunteers have helped the residents of Broadway-Slavic Village to learn, grow, and thrive! Whether it’s staffing a community event, or working regularly in the Hunger Center, our volunteers are a vital part of our team. Won’t you join us?

Please contact Kaitlin Armocida at karmocida@universitysettlement.net if you are interested in volunteering for any of the areas below:

Hunger Center

University Settlement operates one of the region’s largest free-choice pantries, providing approximately 600 families a month with fresh, nutritious food. Regular volunteers are needed between Tuesday and Friday to help keep the pantry clean, organized, and well-stocked while assisting visitors with their food selection.

Community Meal

Every Tuesday evening, community members are invited to enjoy a free hot meal at University Settlement. These meals help to address food insecurity while providing residents with access to the many resources available to them through our organization. Volunteer opportunities are available to individuals and groups who would like to help prepare and serve food to those in attendance.

Produce Drop

On the first Monday of every month Broadway-Slavic Village residents are able to receive a large bag of fresh fruits and vegetables to enjoy at home. Last year this well-attended program distributed nearly 130,000 pounds of produce, and this year is projected to be even better still. The monthly produce drop requires some heavy lifting, so volunteer groups comprised of adults and older children are encouraged to consider helping the Hunger Center staff bag and distribute produce to the community.

Adult Wellness

University Settlement operates an Adult Wellness program that provides seniors and adults with disabilities access to fresh meals, and activities to help them stay engaged while improving memory and cognitive wellness. Volunteer opportunities are available to individuals and groups who have resources they wish to share with our seniors, or to those who want to assist with Senior Programming.

Reception

University Settlement programs are housed in two buildings located along Broadway Avenue. Front desk reception is needed at both buildings during business hours Monday through Friday to answer and direct telephone calls, sign-in guests, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Special Events

University Settlement hosts several signature events throughout the year including the Annual Taste of Slavic Village, the Annual Save our Babies Safe Sleep Event, the Village Father-Daughter Dance, and the AmeriCorps NEO Skill Corps Job Fair, just to name a few. Volunteer opportunities are available for these events on an as-needed basis. Please see the Events page for more information about specific events, including dates and times.
