The taste of slavic village
The Taste of Slavic Village is our signature fundraiser. Held in October, we invite local restaurant and food vendors to come and share a “taste” of what they have to offer that makes Slavic Village so special. There is also a silent auction, a raffle, a wine pull, live music and entertainment, drinks, and more!
This year will be our first Homecoming Weekend Event. There will be multiple wonderful events over the weekend including community revitalization, a gratitude breakfast, a movie night, a Luncheon featuring author Veronica Chambers, a workshop featuring Jenny King, and a Homecoming Dance.

During the holidays, we do many different things to make sure our clients are able to celebrate. During Thanksgiving, we give away gift cards to local grocery stores to our clients to ensure they have enough food to gobble till they wobble!
For Christmas, we host a toy distribution where parents are welcome to come and pick out a certain amount of toys per child. Volunteers help parents through the selection process and wrap the presents for them at the end. We believe it is better to let the parents pick out the toys and give them to their children instead of us giving it to them. We don’t want to take away that special moment from the parents. In addition, we have a fun area for kids to hang out in and also give away extra groceries and winter items such as blankets, hats, and scarfs.
Father Daughter Dance
Every year, fathers from local schools get dressed up and go out with their favorite little girl(s). It’s a wonderful opportunity for father to make lasting memories and spend quality time with their daughters, eat delicious food, and dance the night away! Families loved it so much, we started having a Mother Son dance as well!
Every year, everyone always looks forward to attending the Senior Prom. We invite the adults from our Adult Wellness Program along with other older adults from the area and give them a night they won’t forget. Whether they’re recreating old memories or making new ones, they get a chance to get dressed up and boogie the night away!

Back to School Fair
University Settlement partners with other community organizations to provide over 1,000 local students with a back pack filled with a year’s worth of school supplies for their grade. All of the supplies are donated by organizations and generous individuals and packed personally by volunteers. The event is much more than getting a back pack, we also have bouncy houses, free food, and a resource fair where families can come and learn about local resources available. Last year, Broadway School of Music brought various instruments to let the kids try and take a short lesson, and The Cleveland Zoo brought some of their critters that the kids could learn about!
Save our babies
Did you know 44127 is one of the zip codes with the highest rate of infant mortality? Every year we host the Save Our Babies event where new or expecting parents can come and receive a Baby Box. This box can act as a crib if parents don’t have one at home. It is also filled with other essentials for parents to properly take care of their infant. We also have plenty of resources available and education opportunities to teach parents best practices for a healthy baby such as “Face Up to Wake Up”.
